The Kia Niro Could Get HOW Many Miles Per Gallon?

Tuesday, February 16th, 2016

What would you say to 50 mpg?

Now, you might be thinking: from a Kia? And, we admit, it does sound kind of far-fetched.

Sure, the Kia Soul EV is rated at 120 MPGe in the city–but it can only run for 90 miles. The Kia Optima Hybrid can run all day, and can offer up to 40 mpg on the highway, but it's not the best choice for everyone.

But with the release of the all-new 2017 Kia Niro hybrid SUV in Chicago last week, Kia is changing everything we thought we knew about hybrids, and possibly changing the entire future of the new hybrid model lineup at Motion Kia.

See the new Kia Niro in the flesh in Chicago, and see just why this model is such a surprise.

So, how does Kia propose to follow up with their 50 mpg claim? Simple, they say.

The 2017 Niro is built on a dedicated hybrid platform–the first of its kind for the brand. It's lighter than originally expected, thanks to weight reduction. Its 1.6-liter engine delivers optimum efficiency with new technology, while its electric motor and smartly-placed battery reduces the load on the engine. A series of innovative braking systems and driver-assist programs add that final boost to take this hybrid crossover into a whole new territory.

A pair of brilliant four-bangers make up the Sportage’s powertrain portfolio. The first, a 2.4-liter four-cylinder that’s good for a healthy 182 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque, is standard on the entry-level LX and EX models.

If that doesn’t quite do the trick, you may was to step it up to the Sportage’s top-tier trim, the SX. Outfitted with a turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder, the SX turns out a titanic 260 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. It’s the perfect pick for the performance enthusiast.

If you’d like to meet this marvelous machine “in the metal,” or wish to put one through its paces on the open road, we encourage you to pay us a visit at our Hackettstown, NJ location. Upon your stopover, we’ll be sure to set you up with a test drive in the Sportage, or any other Kia model that’s crossed your mind.
